…Early detection, better survival

About Us

History

Our story starts way back, on September 11, 2004, when African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA) was launched in U.S

over 20 years in operation and counting
20 medical missions across African countries, including Nigeria
Served over 40,000 men and women
20th anniversary as 501(c)(3) non profit organization based in the united states.
The AWCAA is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the Washington, DC area (National Capital Region) of the United States. Our board of
directors comprises prominent figures in major media (Maureen Umeh, Fox5 News anchor and chair of the board), healthcare (Drs. Anna Cabanes and Chukwuemeka Onyewu, MD), academic research (Dr. Vanessa Sheppard), and community and faith-based organizations (Adrien N. Ngudiankama).

Our primary focus in the US is serving African immigrants, and our programs, which are designed for the public good, are provided at no cost to the beneficiaries. Over the past 20 years, AWCAA has concentrated on breast and cervical cancer, as well as patient navigation programs.

Ms. Ify A. Nwabukwu, the president and co-founder of AWCAA and a breast cancersurvivor, is frequently invited to regional and national conferences, advocacy events, and press conferences to raise awareness and promote policies that address breast and cervical cancer disparities. Ms. Nwabukwu was invited by several national agencies, including Gilead Sciences to participate in a TNBC (Triple Negative Breast Cancer) Educational Briefing in Annapolis, with the Maryland Black Legislative Caucus, at the Maryland State Capitol.
